Production line introduction

How the Standard Microduct Bundles Pipe Production Line is engineered, and which sub-assemblies protect the duct properties your customers actually buy.

The bundle line uncoils the microducts on a multi-way pay-off, forms them into the required cross-section, and sheathes the bundle with an HDPE jacket extruded through a cross-design bundle die head. The finished bundle is cooled in spray and immersion tanks, dried and coiled on a gantry type coiler.

Eleven bundle toolings are included with the die head, covering the standard 2, 4 and 7 way flat, square and round bundle layouts from 12/8 to 25/20 mm microduct, so the line is switched to a new bundle type by changing the tooling set. A copper wire uncoiler and guide device is supplied for bundles that need a locating or trace wire.

Production line technical advantages

Each sub-assembly is selected to protect the properties your customers buy: blowing friction, diameter tolerance, roundness and coil quality.

01

Duct pay-off and bundle forming device

A multi-way duct uncoiler with individual frames feeds the bundle shaping device, which sets the microduct pitch and lay before the die head.

02

Cross-design bundle die head

The cross-section die head and its tooling sets form 2, 4 and 7 way flat, square and round bundles in one pass, with a uniform jacket wall around the bundle.

03

Dedicated HDPE jacket extruder

A single screw HDPE extruder with a high-efficiency screw delivers stable melt pressure to the bundle die head, matched to the haul-off and cooling capacity.

04

Spray and immersion cooling

Two cooling tanks — spray followed by immersion — cool the bundle jacket progressively so the bundle section stays true.

05

Two-stage haul-off and gantry coiler

Two belt haul-offs with inverter drives and encoder length metering feed a gantry type coiler sized for long bundle coils.

06

Siemens PLC line control

Extruder, haul-off, cooling and coiler are synchronised from the Siemens PLC system, with remote diagnosis of the line status.

Process flow

From raw material to packed coil, every station is matched in capacity so the line runs at the rated speed without a bottleneck.

  • Microduct uncoiling (up to 16 ways)
  • Bundle shaping and pre-forming
  • HDPE jacket extrusion
  • Cross-design bundle die head
  • Spray cooling
  • Immersion cooling
  • Dehydration drying
  • Two-stage belt haul-off
  • Gantry type bundle coiling
  • Coil packing

Wide applicability

Typical end uses for the duct and bundle this line produces, based on the applications BENK equipment already serves worldwide.

Standard Microduct Bundles Pipe Production Line applications

FTTH backbone and distribution

Microduct bundles for air-blown fibre cable routes where several ducts must be installed in one operation.

Duct networks and chambers

Flat and square bundles for duct banks, chambers and manholes, including trace-wire versions.

Industrial and campus cabling

Bundle ducting for campus backbones, industrial sites and railway or utility routes.

Options and auxiliary equipment

Configure the line for the market you sell into. Popular additions include:

  • Additional bundle toolings and die head sets
  • Online bundle diameter and jacket thickness gauge
  • Copper wire pay-off and wire laying device
  • Automatic bundle coiling, strapping and wrapping
  • Gravimetric dosing and colour masterbatch unit
  • Remote control and production data logging

Why buy from BENK Machinery

Extrusion specialists, not traders

BENK designs and builds extrusion lines in Zhangjiagang with an in-house R&D and process team, so machine selection is matched to your resin and product instead of a catalogue number.

Evidence before shipment

Every line is assembled and run in our works. You receive trial video, diameter and output records, and are welcome to attend the factory acceptance test.

Total cost, not lowest price

Energy-efficient drives, permanent magnet motors and optimized heating reduce kWh per tonne, which usually matters more over five years than the initial purchase price.

Real commissioning support

Our engineers install, commission, train your operators and stay involved until the line hits the specified output and quality on your material.

Spares and response

Critical spares are stocked for fast dispatch, and the Siemens Ethernet control platform allows remote diagnostics and software updates.

Upgrades as you grow

Additional die heads, calibrators, co-extruders and winders can be added later, so the line grows with the duct sizes and bundle types you sell.

Frequently asked questions

The questions buyers ask most often about this line.

Which bundle types can the line produce?
The standard supply includes 11 bundle toolings covering 2, 4 and 7 way flat, square and round bundles in the 12/8 to 25/20 mm microduct range. Other layouts are engineered as additional tooling sets.
How many microducts can be handled at once?
The duct pay-off is built for up to 16 ways; the bundle layout determines how many ducts go into each bundle.
How is the jacket output matched to the line?
The HDPE jacket extruder is selected together with the haul-off speed and cooling length, so the bundle runs at the rated line speed with a fully cooled, round section.
Can the line run a trace or locating wire?
Yes. A copper wire uncoiler and guide roller device is included in the supply, so a locating wire can be laid into the bundle during sheathing.
What is included in the delivery?
Duct uncoiler and frames, bundle shaping device, cross-design bundle die head with 11 toolings, extruder, loader and dryer, two cooling tanks, dehydration unit, two haul-offs, gantry coiler, Siemens PLC control and remote control system.
