Production line introduction

How the Smooth-wall Silicon-core Subduct Production Line is engineered, and which sub-assemblies protect the duct properties your customers actually buy.

The smooth-wall silicon-core sub-duct line combines a high-speed HDPE extruder with a co-extrusion die head that bonds a silicone inner layer to the inside wall of the duct. The duct is sized in a combined multi-sheet water-bath calibrator and a vacuum calibrating tank, cooled through a series of immersion tanks, then dried, hauled off and coiled.

The line covers the complete telecom sub-duct range — 12/8, 14/10, 20/16, 25/20, 28/24, 27.2/23.2, 29/25, 33/28, 38/32 and 42/36 mm. Line control is by Siemens PLC with synchronised temperature, speed and vacuum control, and remote diagnosis of the machine status.

Production line technical advantages

Each sub-assembly is selected to protect the properties your customers buy: blowing friction, diameter tolerance, roundness and coil quality.

01

High-speed HDPE extruder

Five-stage high-efficiency screw with forced feeding and an AC drive sized for thin-wall duct, holding melt pressure steady at production speed.

02

Silicone-core co-extrusion die head

Alloy die head machined on imported CNC centres, with chrome-plated mandrel and mouth die so the silicone layer keeps cable blowing friction permanently low.

03

Multi-sheet water-bath calibrator

The combined multi-sheet calibrator sizes the full sub-duct range on one line, with vacuum control that holds diameter and ovality at production speed.

04

Vacuum and immersion cooling

A vacuum calibrating tank followed by a series of stainless steel immersion tanks cool the duct progressively, protecting roundness and surface quality.

05

Servo belt haul-off and winding

Belt haul-off with encoder length metering, coupled to a servo-traversing winder that produces even, tight coils ready for packing.

06

Siemens PLC line control

Temperature, speed, vacuum and length are controlled from one Siemens PLC system with an operator HMI in English, plus remote control for fault analysis.

Process flow

From raw material to packed coil, every station is matched in capacity so the line runs at the rated speed without a bottleneck.

  • Raw material feeding and drying
  • HDPE extrusion
  • Silicone inner layer co-extrusion
  • Co-extrusion die head
  • Vacuum calibration
  • Multi-sheet water-bath calibration and cooling
  • Dehydration drying
  • Belt haul-off and length metering
  • Coiling

Wide applicability

Typical end uses for the duct and bundle this line produces, based on the applications BENK equipment already serves worldwide.

FTTH and access networks

Smooth-wall silicon-core sub-duct for air-blown fibre in FTTH, access and metro networks.

Telecom duct networks

Sub-duct for micro-duct and duct networks where low blowing friction and long installation lengths matter.

Cable and power ducting

Protection duct for optical and power cable, including indoor/outdoor riser and backbone routes.

Options and auxiliary equipment

Configure the line for the market you sell into. Popular additions include:

  • Gravimetric dosing and colour masterbatch unit
  • Additional die heads and calibrators for other sub-duct sizes
  • Online diameter and wall thickness gauge
  • Double-station winder and automatic coil handling
  • Coil packing and film wrapping machine
  • Remote control and production data logging

Why buy from BENK Machinery

Extrusion specialists, not traders

BENK designs and builds extrusion lines in Zhangjiagang with an in-house R&D and process team, so machine selection is matched to your resin and product instead of a catalogue number.

Evidence before shipment

Every line is assembled and run in our works. You receive trial video, diameter and output records, and are welcome to attend the factory acceptance test.

Total cost, not lowest price

Energy-efficient drives, permanent magnet motors and optimized heating reduce kWh per tonne, which usually matters more over five years than the initial purchase price.

Real commissioning support

Our engineers install, commission, train your operators and stay involved until the line hits the specified output and quality on your material.

Spares and response

Critical spares are stocked for fast dispatch, and the Siemens Ethernet control platform allows remote diagnostics and software updates.

Upgrades as you grow

Additional die heads, calibrators, co-extruders and winders can be added later, so the line grows with the duct sizes and bundle types you sell.

Frequently asked questions

The questions buyers ask most often about this line.

What size range does the line cover?
The tooling set covers 12/8, 14/10, 20/16, 25/20, 28/24, 27.2/23.2, 29/25, 33/28, 38/32 and 42/36 mm, and the calibrator is matched so the same line runs the whole range.
How is the production speed set?
Speed is set by the duct size and wall thickness you run. The calibrator, cooling tanks, haul-off and winder are matched to the extruder output, so the line runs the whole range without a bottleneck.
How is the silicone inner layer applied?
The silicone compound is co-extruded through a composite die head, so the inner layer is bonded to the HDPE wall in one pass and needs no separate lining operation.
How is the finished duct coiled?
A servo-traversing winder coils the duct into long, evenly wound coils; coil length and traverse pitch are set from the control panel.
What is included in the delivery?
Extruder, co-extrusion die head and tooling, loader and dryer, calibrator, vacuum and cooling tanks, dehydration unit, haul-off, winder, Siemens PLC control and remote control system, plus installation and operator training.
